About Portal-Tek Portal-Tek is dedicated to innovative, engineered solutions to enhance high performance 4wheel drive systems. Based in Salt Lake City our products are engineered, tested and abused by those with a passion for off-roading and out of the box thinking. We use the best materials and processes available; this allows us to push the performance of the parts to a higher level with greater strength and safety. Portal-Tek started in 2001 importing portal axles and parts for a few friends and then friends of friends. As these axles were abused and broken the hunt for more and stronger parts intensified. With our engineering background we were determined to see why they were failing and what could be done to fix the problems. Several sets of both Unimog and Volvo axles were torn apart and analyzed to resolve not just the symptoms of broken gears but the axles’ true issues. What we found were several problems inherent in the designs of these axles for modern high horse power and off-road applications. It was clear we would have to design a new axle to correct the problems. Portal-Tek has spent five years in the engineering and development of the Portal-Tek Axle. Our current design, the Gen III, is the culmination of two previous revisions and years of R&D. Despite having the best axle on the market bar none we still continue to innovate and improve. The newest addition to the line up is a 1 1/2 ton axle using the Ford F-450 unit bearing. Several other products such as the Volvo Disc Brake Adapter mark Portal-Tek commitment to continuous innovation and domination of the off-road industry.
